How Much Does Computer Repair Cost in Port Huron?

When your computer stops cooperating, the first question is usually not “what’s wrong with it?” It’s “how much is this going to cost me?” That’s a fair question, and you shouldn’t have to call around to get a straight answer.

Here’s exactly how we price computer repair at Huron Technical Solutions, what makes a job cost more or less, and a few things you can do to keep the bill down.

The short answer: our rates

  • On-site service: $75 per hour, at your home or business
  • Remote support: $45 per hour, over a secure connection
  • Quick visit: $50 flat for an on-site job that takes 30 minutes or less
  • 15-minute consultation: free, by phone, so you know what you’re looking at before you commit

Every rate is published on our computer repair page. No estimates you have to call for, and no surprise line items at the end.

How parts are priced

Some repairs need a physical part: a new screen, a battery, a solid-state drive, more memory. Those jobs are quoted separately as parts plus labor when you call or book, so you see the full number before any work starts.

We don’t mark up hardware. You pay what the part costs and you pay for our time, and that’s it. If you’d rather buy the part yourself, that’s fine too. We’re happy to help you make sure it’s the right one for your machine.

What makes a repair cost more or less

Since most work is billed by time, the final cost mostly comes down to three things:

  • Whether it can be fixed remotely. Software problems like pop-ups, slowdowns, setup, and many virus cleanups can often be handled over a secure connection at the lower remote rate. Hardware problems need hands on the machine.
  • How clear the problem is. A known issue (“my screen is cracked”) is quicker than a mystery (“it freezes sometimes”). Intermittent problems take longer to track down.
  • Whether a part is involved. Parts add to the total, but they’re quoted up front, so there are no surprises.

How to keep your repair bill down

A few minutes of prep on your end can save real time on ours:

  1. Restart it first. A full restart (not just closing the lid) clears up more problems than you’d expect.
  2. Write down what’s happening. When did it start? What were you doing? Is there an error message? A photo of the screen is perfect.
  3. Back up anything important, if the computer still turns on. It protects you no matter what the problem turns out to be.
  4. Find the model number. It’s usually on a sticker on the bottom of a laptop or the back of a desktop. It helps us price parts quickly.
  5. Ask about remote support. If the problem is software, remote work is the cheapest way to fix it.

When a repair isn’t worth it

Sometimes the honest answer is that a computer isn’t worth fixing. If a machine is old and the repair would cost close to what a replacement would, we’ll tell you that plainly, and help you weigh it. We’d rather lose a repair job than talk you into spending money on something that won’t serve you well.

On the flip side, a lot of “slow, old” computers have years of life left in them. A storage upgrade or a good cleanup can make an older machine feel new again for far less than replacing it.

Common questions

Do you mark up parts?
No. You pay for the part and for our labor, and nothing on top of that.

Do you come to me?
Yes. We do on-site work across Port Huron, Marysville, Fort Gratiot, St. Clair, and the rest of St. Clair County, plus remote support anywhere.

What if the problem comes back?
If something stops working within 24 hours of a fix, we’ll take another look free of charge.
